Members of the United States Women’s National Team who have been at the forefront of debate over equal pay are about to receive an additional paycheck. But the $529,000 bonus won’t be coming from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the governing organization with which the team is locked in a legal challenge over equal pay. Instead, the check is being sent by one of the team’s sponsors, Procter & Gamble. But don’t mark this as a case of a major company jumping in to take advantage of a cultural moment.
