We believe...

We believe that media and technology play a major role in how women and girls see themselves. We believe in the power this visibility inspires in our world. And we believe that truth and inclusiveness benefit all people, everywhere.

It stands to reason that more women and girls will be inspired to reach their potential when the ads and programming they see reflects who they really are. Yet the average age, race, and body type of women depicted in the media today represent just a small fraction of the female population. That means most women and girls have likely never seen themselves reflected in the media. We believe that must change.

But big change is possible only with the strength and leverage of a big group behind it. The #SeeHer movement is an unprecedented coalition of advocacy partners that is representative of the entire marketing ecosystem. #SeeHer is not political. It does not take sides. It is interested only in creating a world in which every woman and every girl see themselves as they really are in advertising and media.

Because we are not just marketers, or producers, or storytellers. We are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters. We believe that we owe it to ourselves, our businesses and our families to create a more just and equitable society.

The #SeeHer movement is spearheaded by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), the largest marketing and advertising association in the United States. The ANA makes a difference for individuals, brands, and the industry by advancing the interests of marketers and promoting and protecting the well-being of the marketing community. ANA membership includes nearly 1,000 companies with 15,000 brands that collectively spend or support more than $400 billion in marketing and advertising annually.

Our Timeline

From our June 2016 launch at the White House, #SeeHer is changing how women and girls are portrayed in media. Our proprietary measurement tool is the industry standard for identifying and eliminating unconscious bias in advertising and programming.
